This stellar set of bookends measure approximately 4.75 t. X 4.25″ x 4″ and are properly marked with the round die-impressed Cowan logo. Extraordinary Machine Age design that rarely surfaces on the market. Drexler Jacobson, who taught for many years at the Silvermine Guild in Connecticut. He was a member of the avant-garde, short-lived consortium called AUDAC (Associated Union of Decorative Artists and Craftsmen). For Cowan Pottery, Jacobson contributed 6 designs in total. These bookends are the most sought after. This particular set was selected to be part of the exhibition co-organized several years ago by the Smithsonian Cooper Hewitt Design Museum and the Cleveland Museum of Art a few years ago, as from the collection of Mark Bassett and George Cooper. The exhibition has a magnificent catalog, with the same title, THE JAZZ AGE: AMERICAN STYLE IN THE 1920s. I’m Mark Bassett, author and collector.
