Fabulous antique Art Deco bookends by Ronson’s Art Metal Works– possibly the most charming bookends ever designed, with two Chinese youngsters, beautifully sculpted. The boy is poised to spring into action while the girl is quietly absorbed by what she reads. This particular Ronson version is all the more rare because it is polychrome — hand enameled with red, white, aubergine, turquoise and black along with the old gold and bronze electroplated metallic finishes. Over the years, other makers have imitated this bookend, making slight changes to the design, but the quality just isn’t there. Ronson’s Art Metal Works, founded by Louis Aronson in the 1800s, was a leader and pioneer in the manufacture of fine decorative metal wares into the 1930s producing a diverse selection of beautifully designed metal bookends, cigarette lighters, hood ornaments, figurines, lamps, and much more. Today, Art Metal Works pieces are hard to find Art Deco masterpieces and are highly valued. CONDITION: Normal age appropriate signs of use including some scratches and nicks. No excessive wear, damage or repairs. The original green felt on the bases shows wear and loss consistent with age. SIZE: The standing boy is almost 9 inches tall and the L-shape base measures 6 inches tall, 6.5 inches long and about 3 inches wide. WEIGHT: Together they weigh 9 lbs.
