These Art Deco cast iron bookends were made by Hubley Mfg Co almost 100 years ago at the height of the Art Deco Roaring 20’s. Hubley manufactured high quality castings of bookends depicting many various subjects that reflected literary, historical, or other subject matter, and these bookends reflect this craftsmanship and quality. These great examples of 1920’s bookends would be a great addition to anyones collection! ABOUT HUBLEY CAST IRON BOOKENDS. Hubley was founded by John E. Anything Hubley ever made was always made in Cast Iron. To determine a Hubley bookend? S authenticity, most of their L-shaped bookends had a 3-digit number inscribed on the back of the bookend. Hubley did not usually mark their 3-dimensional full-figured bookends, because it would ruin the look. A good set of Cast Iron Bookends were very labor-intensive to produce. In the casting process, metalworkers would carve out a form of wood, or hammer the design out in metal. The form was then pressed into finely compacted sand, making an impression. Cast iron, which was heated to 3000 degrees was poured into the sand mold and when cooled, the form would pop out and rough edges were filed off. Every bookend would need a new sand mold made to produce it. 1-2: VERY COMMON – Consistently available online or at antique malls at all times. 3: COMMON – Available with regularity, typically seen several times online or at antique malls or shows. 4: UNCOMMON – In online sales, may be seen as often as several times a month. I started collecting high quality and rare bookends in the late 90’s. I have amassed an amazing collection of beautiful, rare, and high quality bookends. Many bookends from my collection have been featured in the popular bookend history and value guide, The Collector? S Encyclopedia of Bookends published 2006 by Dr Louis Kuritzky and Charles De Costa. I want to share my passion for these wonderful and forgotten works of art, and offer pieces of my collection to you so you can enjoy them as much as I have!
