Antique/Vintage Art Deco Era 1929 Cowan Pottery Sunbonnet Girls Bookend Figurines #521 Statues Ceramic in Antique Green. Condition is “Used” But Excellent. Antique 1929 Cowan Pottery Sunbonnet Girls Ceramic Bookends in Antique Green Color. Each bookend is 7.75″ tall, 3.25″ base and width of 4. They are in Excellent Condition with no chips or cracks. The Cowan impressed mark can be faintly seen on the lower left of one of the bookends, the other mark is under heavy glaze. Both Bookends have felt on the bottom. These charming figural bookends, shape #521 are from a 1913 design by Katherine Barnes Jenkins. Produced by Cowan pottery circa 1929, they are glazed in beautiful “Antique Green”, a rutile crystalline matte finish with glossy brown and olive highlights, and depict the now familiar image of the “Sunbonnet Girl” COWAN POTTERY HISTORY: Originally formed as the Cleveland Pottery and Tile Company by designer, potter and teacher R. Guy Cowan, the Cowan Pottery Studio, which operated from 1913 to 1931, produced outstanding and technically extraordinary pieces, which brought international recognition to American Art Pottery. The expertise of the talented artists and chemists in residence allowed them to create distinctly modern forms and glazes during its short-lived existence that have never been reproduced.
