I think these are pretty neat, though I don’t know what they are supposed to represent. The design strikes me as organic or “alive” in a sense – something from the plant kingdom, or maybe a dancing flame. The flat backs tells me they were intended to be bookends, but I think they have greater appeal as decorative objects for mantel or table. Hollow-cast grey metal (spelter) and given a 2-color finish. No maker’s mark, so I don’t know who made them or when. I think they have a 1950’s look. Finish shows some wear and minor abrasion (see 2nd to last pic). Felts probably are original. Both pieces sit flat and stable. 6 1/2 inches tall; 4 1/2 inches wide (at mid-body); 2 1/2 inches thick. Combined weight is just shy of 3 1/2 pounds.
