Antq Arts Crafts Deco Edgar Brandt Design Hammered Copper And Bronze Bookends
We have for sale a beautiful matching pair of genuine 1920’s Art Deco/Arts & Crafts hammered copper and bronze pelican bookends based on the design by Edgar Brandt. These are beautifully hand-hammered (reminiscent of Dirk van Erp, Jarvie and Roycroft) with outstanding bronze and copper patinas. The pelicans catch elegant fountains of water with their open beaks. The base of the bookends are stamped with the letters “R B”. There is a picture of the original Edgar Brandt bookends at the Paul Poiret Couture house in 1924 in the book entitled Brandt, Master of Art Deco Ironwork by Joan Kahr Abrams. The bookends were manufactured very soon after the 1924 originals. They may originate from Europe France? They each measure approximately 7 1/4″ high x 6 3/4″ long x just under 3 1/4 wide and. 3 1/2 lbs each. There may be surface scratches below the patina commensurate with age and usage.
