Ultra Rare Pair Of Art Deco August Walther & Sohne Glass Bear / Eisbar Bookends
A True Rarity & Stunning Pair Of Art Deco August Walther & Sohne Frosted Glass Bear / Eisbar On Amber Plinth Bookends that were depicted in their 1934 Pattern Book. The bears themselves are in very good overall condition with some manufacturing striation lines and very minimal light scuffing in places and have faired much better than the plinths. One of the said plinths is in much better shape than the other and it just has one top corner slither chip but with this one there is also a problem with the the bear having been re-attached to this very crudely at some point. Unfortunately it has been left at an angle with some residual glue showing on the top area of the plinth I would hope than somone in the know could fastly improve upon this amateur effort!!! The other plinth has faired rather worse but saying that it is relatively complete with an end chip and a frustratingly large impact crack across it’s whole body but one that has been stabilised with glue. The Bears each measure approximately 16cms long x 5cms wide x 10 1/2cms high and the Plinths each measure approximately 17 1/2cms long x 7 1/2cms wide x 2cms high and their combined total weight is a very substantial 3420 grams. In spite of the unfortunate plinth problems these bookends remain ultra rare examples and as they still display very well in their current state I feel that they would grace any collection but, if deemed necessary, might well be improved upon with some form of sympathetic restoration. At the end of the day, when will you ever see another pair?? The item “Ultra Rare Pair Of Art Deco August Walther & Sohne Glass Bear / Eisbar Bookends” is in sale since Monday, February 3, 2020.
