Pair of 1930s Art Deco Hard Wood Hand Carved Marabou Stork Bookends. Fantastic pair of hardwood hand carved bookends in the form of marabou stalks. I don’t know the wood type, but it is close grained and quite heavy. The carving is skillfully done. There is no damage and no repairs. The bookends date to around 1920 – 1930 and were carved in Brienz, Switzerland, possibly at the Huggler atelier. They are original items from the Art Deco period and not later copies. All the wooden carved items I currently have for sale came from a former Lucerne-based souvenir shop, which closed in 1943 and were kept by the then owners and then by descent to the now previous owner.
