A pair of desirable and scarce antique cast iron bookends by L. In 1886, Aronson founded Art Metal Company in New York City; a year later moved it to Newark, NJ, and changed the name to Art Metal Works. The date is difficult to decipher, but I found another set like this one online that indicated it was manufactured in 1922. The 1-9-2 is readable, but the last digit is not. The set is in very good antique condition with surface wear commensurate with age and use. A nice greenish patina has developed in areas, particularly between columns. Individual bookends measure 4 1/2″ in height; 4 7/8″ in width; 2 5/8 in depth. Original felt protection still affixed to the set. A nice piece for the collector.
