Recast from the French sculpture “Elyse” by M. Guiraud Riviere (1925), these decidedly Art Deco bookends feature shapely female nude figures seated on shells. I believe 1 bookend is high-quality solid bronze and the second may be cast iron covered in bronze based on the lighter weight, both recast from the original molds in 1980 by Collection Francaise. The round Collection Francaise foundry mark is found on the back of each bookend near the base. They are in superior condition and quite heavy. They will add style and elegance to your personal library or make a thoughtful gift for a favorite bibliophile. Each bookend measures 9″ tall, 3 1/2″ wide, and 4 1/2 thick. They are very heavy, weighing over 6 lbs together. A thin protective felt covering is added under each base.
